Representing global connections
Resources for the global dimension relate not only to content but also to pedagogy. The mediation of the resources is as important as the resources themselves. How resources are used teaches the pupils as much about the global dimension as the information contained within them. The resources that we select and use give messages about global interconnections. In this unit we explore four ways of representing global connections:
- globes and maps as images;
- confident informed citizens;
- ecological footprints;
- web enquiry.
Globes and maps as images
Activities that involve pupils in turning words into an image engage both the left brain (language) and the right brain (spatial manipulation of forms and patterns). Activities that connect the left and the right brain help to raise standards. Using a varied diet of activities and different learning methodologies helps to involve as many pupils as possible.
