How can the inclusion of the global dimension enhance the secondary school curriculum?

This section looks at practical ways of finding out how the global dimension can enhance the secondary school curriculum. This is achieved through looking at an example of good practice in action and carrying out activities in your own classroom with your pupils and assessing the outcomes. You can then widen this to a more theoretical discussion with colleagues.

Part 1: for teachers

  1. Click on the Video icon and watch the three clips from the British Council video Developing Global Citizens in Secondary Schools (IBT/The Central Bureau for International Education and Training, 2000). The clips are all taken from Section 3 of the video. Transcripts are available on the IBT web site. Transcripts
  2. Note down two or three learning opportunities and challenges that were presented in the classroom.
  3. Reflect on the opportunities and challenges that may be presented in your own classroom. Keep a note of these.
